Reuben's first excuse for a bbq party

We had fantastic weather, against all odds. It was the best party yet, a pity about 10 people we'd confirmed but couldn't make it last minute. We have quite alot of cake and fizzy drinks left. I'm working on the cake.
There were no major melt downs, I might get a reputation for people bringing their kids round and they leave in a clothes I've had to lend them because they are soaked and covered in sand. I think they enjoyed it though. I think I was much better prepared than last year, but considering last year, I'd only just had Reuben, that's no surprise. It's nice to have a birthday in the summer so we can have a good excuse for a party.

Reuben's First Birthday

A year has passed! He is a big bouncing boy, not quite walking but a force to be reconed with, a fast crawler and a formidable holder on to toys when older children think they can take them from him.
Yesterday, we had a relaxed day as a family, did the card and present opening in the morning. After sleeps we drove to Newmarket to pay in Reuben's birthday cheque into his savings account. We were planning on going on somewhere else but by the time we'd got out the house, we had ran out of time. There was a lovely tea party waiting for us at Nana's and we didn't want to be late for that. It was a lovely party for Reuben and with the fabulous weather, we all got to sit out in Ellen and Dan's garden and enjoy summer with them. Reuben is coming on fast and will stand for a few seconds now without holing on to things. Leon is of course, very chuffed with all of Reuben's presents, we did get Leon an unbirthday present too, a Ready Bed for the holidays.

Leon's first rainbow

We were driving home and it had occurred to me a while ago that Leon's only really seen rainbows in books so when a rainbow appeared in the sky, we stopped and let him get a good look.

Open Farm Sunday

We weren't sure what with the weather being a bit wet yesterday but having seen all the farms open all over our area, we choose one and off we went. The one we chose had vintage and modern farm equipment, ride on tractor as well as a farmers market. It was worth going, the rain held off and we all enjoyed it. Leon got to sit on numerous tractors and the cockpit of a Combine Harvester, which was a dream come true for him!
