I can has yoghurt

I ironed baby clothes for the first time today, a shirt and trousers for Leon to wear for the wedding. teeny weeny. Leon's beginning to learn to travel forward with crawling; he goes up onto all fours, uses his body to shift both legs forward then throws his arms forward, face down and then back up on to all fours. I'm sure he will work out that this is rather energy inefficient soon.

Leon update

I've just got to blog about some interesting leaps forward in Leon's personality - he's become a right joker!

Thursday night, after I'd finished feeding him, I sat him up for a burp, as normal. I said "Are you going to give daddy a burp" and he said "arrp!". Yes, he did a pretend burp :)

And this morning, I was feeding him - he was enjoying his apple and cinamon mush, when suddenly he went stony faced. Oh, I thought, has he had enough? But then he lunged at the spoon and grinned in a 'I had you there didn't I' way :)

Before I forget... this morning he saw me in a mirror and turned round to look at me! Advanced baby, proud dad :)

Courgette season

Yes courgette hunting season has opened, and we bagged a biggun from M&D's garden. I whipped up a courgette and mushroom noodle dish, which was delish - thanks M&D :)

And I must say I think my cooking's coming on, because tonight I used left over rice from yesterday's cauliflower curry (!) to make egg fried rice (with peas!) with a chinesey ostridge, broccoli and carrot stir fry. No sauces, just some spices, soy sauce and plenty of garlic. Christine was well impressed :)

Father's day

Of course at the weekend it was Father's day :)
Leon wore a special T-shirt, mirroring the one he wore on Mother's day :)
As you can just about see, he can hold himself up on the cot side now, although sometimes it goes awry!

As for my own father, I invited him round for lunch and I cooked steak and kidney pudding with mash, cabbage (from M&D's garden! Lovely) and carrots, with lots of lovely gravey. Simple, but lovely, and dad really enjoyed it :)

M suggested an open garden she'd seen advertised, near Newmarket, so we piled into my car. Lovely day, lovely gardens.

I chatted to dad about all sorts of things as we wandered round, which was nice as we don't get to chat much. And at the end we all had tea/squash and cake. In fact they were just shutting up shop, and they'd bought too many cakes so we ended up with a huge sponge cake to take home! Nice :)

Hand coordination

Leon's hand coordination is getting better - he can drink from a beaker fairly well, when he's sucking the right end that is... He can even drink from a special sloping cup, which I forget the name of, for a few seconds, as long as we're there to control it - otherwise he either drowns himself, gets it all down him, or the cup (and water) go flying... :)

And in the bath at the weekend he decided to have a splash around for the first time - he really enjoyed splatting the water with his hands. He also investigated the shower. I was too slow to catch him using it like a microphone, or trying to drink from it!

Leon has his first tooth!

I was really quite happy, my first born's first tooth! Bottom centre right, a little sharp stump. He now has his tongue out permanently like a doggy as he feels it with the underside of his tongue, that or his gums together like an old man without his teeth in.

Most of the day he's been fine, he was visibly suffering yesterday and was sick, the entire contents of his stomach during lunch. I had him on my knee as he'd signaled he wanted to be picked up it was something like hands in the air and his expression said 'mummy i don't feel right' so a instinctively put him close to me on my knee. 30 seconds later we were both covered in sweet potato and milky yuk.

Today he's been pretty good. We had Sarah with Leah and Zoe with Juliette, so Leon had two pretty girls to play with (see pictures). I had a victoria sponge to share out so we all had Starbucks size cake portions (quite large) and a pint of cordial to wash it down before taking them to the swings.

At bedtime, I went to give him some teething granules just as I put him down in his cot. They went down the wrong way and most of his dessert came back up in a pool about 5 inches round just next to his right shoulder and head. Luckily Tob was on hand, I handed a slightly sicky but mostly alright Leon to Tob to replace his sleeping bag, managing to transfer sick on to my new t-shirt that came through the post from my dad. The t-shirt says 'I love being really rather gorgeous which was a quote by (I read this upside down on my chest - it's now in the washing machine) Lady Ottoline Morrell c1920. I will google her and let you know... The t-shirt fits perfectly which considering it was a one size t-shirt and I'm not exactly a normal size was very impressive.

He's gone to sleep OK only half an hour after normal. I gave him the other boob so he's shouldn't be hungry until later now.

I'm hungry though. Wonderful smells of ostrich burger stir fry coming from the kitchen.

Pictures from Sunday

Fathers day, yes it was. Leon got his Dad a nice card and was sporting a t-shirt saying 'I likc chocolate but I like Daddy more. Yes he has had a small taste of chocolate and he was quite enthusiastic but not as happy as he is to see his Dad of an evening.

Tob cooked steak and kidney pud for his Dad and then we went out for a walk round Chippenham Park - a private house but had an open garden. Very beautiful. I admit we all walked around wondering how much money it must take to keep it all going.

Milk time!

Just more lovely pictures - Milk Time! and Shhh, I'm composing.

Simpson's shot

Going round Waitrose, I tend to give Leon something to rustle, but when I put him on the checkout belt for a Simpson's shot, he found the mushroom bag - irresistibly scrunchy!
I don't know if Christine's mentioned it, but Leon loves checkout girls, he always puts on a cute smile and gives them his twinkly eyes. I'm sure he'd wink if he'd leant to, what a flirt!

Standing, well leaning

Leon's really coming on, this was 26/5/07, and already you can see he can stand as long as he's leaning on something! He loves this Poo tree, and it's for 12m+!!! He loves eating the red circle and even seemed to be trying to put it back in it's place, if you count banging it against the tree in approximately the right place ;) But he did find the twirly circle and twirled it :)

Canterbury and Herne Bay

As Chris has already blogged, we went to Herne Bay recently to pick up a new pram. Leon loved looking around, he's a real out-doors kid.

Couple of piccies from me in Canterbury. The obligatory 'we iz here' shot:

The site of the martyrdom - Chris had gone up steps to see the rest of the cathedral, leaving me with Leon, but that gave me time to wait for a gap in the people milling around for this shot.

And we're we going to sit back in the carseat without a fight? Oh no we were not :)
